ATLANTA -- Police on Monday were investigating five unrelated shootings in the Atlanta area over the weekend that left a pizza delivery worker, a motel employee and another man dead, and three other men wounded.
The spurt of violence began about 2 a.m. Saturday when Allen Burdette, 19, was shot to death in his car as he arrived at a friend's home in northwest Atlanta, police said. The victim had just left his pizza delivery job for the night. No motive was given for the murder.
About three hours later, a 26-year-old man was shot several times in the upper body as he walked along an Atlanta street. The victim, Gerald Green, gave police a description of his assailant. Green was listed in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Also Saturday morning, a young man was shot in the back in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Police say robbery appears to be the motive for that attack. The victim was listed in critical condition at Grady hospital.
At about 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning two people were shot, one of them fatally, at Oaktree Apartments on White Pine Drive, police said. The name of the man who later died in a local hospital was withheld. A second man, Stephen Phillips, 28, was injured but his wounds were apparently not life threatening.
On Sunday, a man was found shot to death in the office of the Savannah Suites motel on Memorial Drive in Decatur. DeKalb County police said the unidentified man, an employee at the motel, had been shot several times. The motive for that shooting appeared to be resulting from a dispute, though police did not elaborate. Investigators were questioning several people, said police spokesman Sgt. Pat White.
No arrests were immediately made in any of the four shootings.
