Mr. Walter Czura (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mr. Walter Czura, 87, of Poindexter Drive, Augusta, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Veronica Murphy Czura, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 11 a.m. in Summerville Cemetery with the Rev. Ifeanyi Iwu officiating. A native of Garfield, N.J., Mr. Czura came to Augusta in 1945 at the end of WWII, where he served with distinction in the U.S. Army, 4th Infantry Div., as part of the initial D-Day invasion of Europe in Utah Beach and the liberation of France. He further served with distinction under General George S. Patton in the 3rd Army 654 Tank Destroyer Div. He was assigned to the advance of battle in the Ardennes Forest and the liberation of the encircled 101st Airborne Div. at Bastogne, known as the Battle of the Bulge. He was a retired real estate manager and life-long member of St. Marys on the Hill Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Million Dollar Round Table Club and served on the building committee of St. Josephs Hospital. Mr. Czura is survived by his three sons, John J. Czura of Grovetown, Ga., Walter M. Czura of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Timothy O. Czura of Bluffton, S.C.; six grandchildren, John J. Czura, Jr. of Charleston, S.C., Ellen E. Gordon Czura of Nashville, Tenn., Elizabeth Murphy Czura, Lane Cassidy Czura, Maren Morgan Veronica Czura and Elinor Veronica Czura, all of Hilton Head, S.C.; three daughter-in-laws, Anne Blanchard Czura, of Grovetown, Ga., Gwen Richards Czura of Hilton Head Island, S.C. and Caddell Bollin Czura, of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; and his dear and loving friend, Francis B. Reynolds. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Augusta Rescue Mission, 526 Walker St., Augusta, GA 30901 or St. Marys on the Hill Catholic Church, 1420 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904. Pallbearers will be Douglas D. Batchelor, James E. Blanchard, Thomas M. Blanchard, Sr., Thomas M. Blanchard, Jr., Greg Bowman, George C. Lenz, Dr. John D. Reynolds III, and Dr. Albert White.
