Tri-Cities got only six first downs against Evans in the team's Region 7-AAAAA matchup Friday night. They were more than enough for a 48-6 victory that kept the Knights winless on the season.
"They've got a lot of speed," Evans coach Marty Jackson said. "They've got such a big-play offense. I think they only had a few first downs the whole game."
Evans' special teams failed them, as Tri-Cities scored on a kickoff return in the first quarter and the runback of a blocked field goal in the fourth.
Tristan Davis started the first quarter scoring frenzy with a 90-yard return on the opening kickoff. He followed with a 74-yard TD run less than three minutes later. Tri-Cities running back Ramarcus Brown took the ball 55 yards for a touchdown run to round out the opening quarter.
Evans' only TD came in the second quarter with a one-yard run by running back Chang Ho. The Knights' workhorse had the most rushing yards of the game with 137 yards on 32 carries.
But Ho's efforts weren't enough for the Bulldogs' 291 yards of total offense.
"Either we would stop them or they would bust a big one," Jackson said. "We couldn't seem to find any middle ground. We've got some mechanics that we need to work on against teams this fast."
