Mr. Charles Walker (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest on Monday, September 23, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Mr. Charles Walker, 94, of Collier Road, Augusta. Mr. Walker served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had lived and worked his entire adult life in Brooklyn, New York. He had moved back to Georgia following the death of his wife, and because of his age and failing health in 1999. Mr. Walker never had children of his own to call him "Daddy" but had a helpful hand in raising a "bunch" of nieces and nephews from his four siblings who all preceded him in death. Mr. Walker was truly a soldier on the battlefield, he fought a good fight and he ran a fulfilling race. Survivors include six nieces, Mary J. Reese, Clara (Sam) Odom, Araminta (Willie) Barnes, Deborah (Anthony) Mitchell, Margaret and Mary Jane Grier and LaSandra Corley; ten nephews, Rev. Frederick Williams, Iven Henry, Jr, Lanny, Milton and Keith Williams, Raymond, Charles, Timothy and Billy Grier, Joseph Calles; along with a host of other great nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held in the Millen Cemetery. Hatcher Funeral Home, Augusta. Sign the guestbook at AugustaChronicle.com
