Mr. Walter McAvoy (WASHINGTON, Ga.)



WASHINGTON, Ga.- Mr. Walter Pope McAvoy, 81, of Stoney Ridge Rd., died Sunday morning at his home. Mr. McAvoy was a native of Wilkes County and had lived there all his life. He was the widower of Dorothy Poss McAvoy and was a member of Phillips Mill Baptist Church. Graveside services will be Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Phillips Mill Baptist Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Jacobs officiating. Pallbearers will be Donald Gunter, Greg Scott, Jeremy Goldman, Scott Chafin, Kevin Ingram, David Chafin, Brian Tench, Sterling Shealy, Kyle and Josh Goldman, Mark Tench, and Whit Chafin. Mr. McAvoy is survived by one son, Larry McAvoy and his wife Linda, of Washington; three daughters, Debbie M. Goldman and husband, Jesse, Jean M. Gunter and husband, Thomas, and Janice M. Scott and husband, Sam, all of Washington; one sister, Mary M. Dunn, of Washington; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends tonight (Monday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hopkins Funeral Home. The family is at the residence of Janice Scott at 1756 Stoney Ridge Rd. in Washington.
