MARIETTA, Ga. -- Children in Marietta have a challenge for the fall - find the tallest tree.
A tree will be planted in the name of the child who finds the tallest tree, complete with a plaque forever designating the child as the "Tallest Tree Contest Winner."
The nonprofit Marietta Tree Keepers Inc. is sponsoring the contest to emphasize tree preservation and educate kids about plant growth patterns.
No matter who wins the contest, it will help the Tree Keepers with their upcoming tree survey.
"Kids will go out and find our oldest trees," said Holly Walquist, head of Tree Keepers. "None of it will be wasted information."
The group planted 127 trees last fall and is preparing for another planting season.
