ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves activated closer John Smoltz from the disabled list Saturday, a day after he threw for about 10 minutes in the bullpen.
Smoltz has been on the disabled list since Aug. 27 with tendinitis in his right elbow. Atlanta manager Bobby Cox said Smoltz could pitch Sunday against the Florida Marlins, when starter Greg Maddux goes for his 15th win of the season.
Smoltz has 44 saves and an 0.89 ERA, a year after setting the NL record with 55 saves.
The Braves also activated reliever Kevin Gryboski, who's been out since Aug. 28 with a small tear in his right labrum, a piece of cartilage that stabilizes the shoulder. In 61 games, he's 6-4 with a 4.10 ERA in 41 2-3 innings.
