Regarding your Sept. 4 front-page report, "Offices take shape": The development of the Richmond County Board of Education's new office building at Ninth and Broad streets is good news.
I can hardly wait to see school-service personnel and board members move into such a nice facility. This will be a nice Christmas present that our community can be proud of. Some "high marks" include: the large meeting room for the public to attend school board meetings; efficient parking space on the Ellis Street parking deck; various service departments within stepping distance of each other; and sales of vacated board properties to recoup significant expenses. This clustering decision is a wise choice. We should show appreciation to our board members and superintendent for bringing it about.
And a special thanks is in order for the junior board member from District 8, Jeff Padgett. As president of the school board, his steadfast leadership helped keep the new office building idea alive.
