Outdoors calendar



NOTE: All the listed events are open to the public, although membership in some organizations might be required.

  • Tuesday: The Sierra Club meets at 6:30 p.m. at Unitarian Church, Walton Way Ext. Dr. Bill Lawless will discuss the future of Savannah River Site. The public is welcome. Call 863-2324 for details.
  • Wednesday: The Boatsmart class with instruction on boating safety, navigation and other topics will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Savannah River Credit Union training classroom behind North Augusta Business Technology Center. Call 796-8532 to register.
  • Thursday: A discovery program on animal tracks will be held at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event is free. Bring a picnic dinner and the family. Call 828-2109 for details.
  • Monday, Sept. 22, and Tuesday, Sept. 23: A guided flyfishing trip to trophy trout waters in eastern Tennessee will be organized by Rivers & Glen Trading Co. Cost is $475 per person. Call 738-4536 for details.
  • Monday, Sept. 22: CSRA Flyfishing Association meets at 7:30 p.m. at Brandon Wilde Clubhouse, 4275 Owens Road. The public is welcome. E-mail norseman46@aol.com for details.

  • Saturday, Sept. 27: The Rivers Alive Annual Canal Cleanup will begin at 9 a.m. at the Old Lock & Dam below Savannah Rapids Pavilion. The Sierra Club is the host of the event. Call 863-2324 for more details.
  • Sunday, Sept. 28: Fort Gordon Sportsman's Club will sponsor "Take a Soldier Fishing Day" from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Fort Gordon post license requirements will be waived for the event. Club members will provide boats and electric motors. Call 791-5078 for more details.
