BALI, Indonesia -- Top-seeded Chanda Rubin beat Japan's Saori Obata 6-2, 7-5 Saturday to reach the final of the Wismilak International.
Rubin will face second-seeded Elena Dementieva of Russia, who eliminated Maria Vento-Kabchi of Venezuela 6-4, 6-3.
Rubin has beaten Dementieva in two of their three matches and will be going for her third title of the year Sunday.
Rubin had dropped only eight games in the tournament until Saturday. Obata made the 10th-ranked American work hard in the second set, breaking serve to lead 2-0 but Rubin immediately broke back. Obata, ranked 68, was playing in her first WTA semifinal.
"I'm going to have to compete a little bit better and also be a little bit more aggressive," Rubin said.
Dementieva, ranked No. 9, made repeated unforced errors against an opponent ranked No. 84 but playing some of the best tennis of her career.
"I realized she likes it when I try to hit very hard," Dementieva said. "So I changed my play to a little bit slower and started to move her, and that was the key to the match."
