Rants and raves

Comments from readers:

I'VE BEEN TELLING a lot of the neighbors around here that they need to stop burning trash in the yards. The smoke's all over the yards, regardless of whether your doors are open or closed. It's all through the house, and it's very hard on you. Sometimes, you get colds and sneezing. So why don't you put something in the paper to show these people that's it's against the law to burn trash in your yards? That's what the trash pickup is for.

THIS IS A RANT for the gas attendant at the BP on Wrightsboro Road who gets my husband's tag number every time he pumps more than $40 in gas in his Lincoln Navigator, as if he's going to leave without paying. Is it because he's black? When confronted, he stated, "I'm doing my job." The question is, do you want to keep it?

THIS IS A RANT to the airlines in Augusta. Bush Field hired a consulting firm to help Continental take in more business travel dollars. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you lower the price of airline tickets, the business and, most importantly, leisure travel will come. We have to pay triple the amount to fly out of Augusta than to fly out of Atlanta. Then they hire consultants at the price of $50,000. How about applying that cost to decreasing the cost of tickets so you'll see results? Pay me $50,000, and I can tell you that.

I HAVE A RAVE for a lady who picked up a dog that she ran over and took it to the Columbia County Animal Shelter. The dog was picked up by a rescue group, and the dog is doing great His leg is mended,he's gotten all the medical treatment he needs, and he's going to be found a home. Thanks very much for being so kind.

THIS IS A BIG RAVE for two sheriff's office employees who helped us when our car broke down and we were in backed- up traffic. It just cut down - the alternator went out, and I had a very sick dog in the car and a very mad wife. They stayed with us until the tow truck man got there. I just wanted to tell them a big thank you.

THIS IS A BIG pat on the back to our Veterans Administration Hospital. They have cured my acid reflux. Their medicine prices can't be beat, even though they've tripled in the past couple of years. It's still a lot cheaper than what we can get on the outside, and now they're working on my prostate.
