NORTH CENTRAL 20,

WAGENER-SALLEY 19

WAGENER, S.C. -- Wagener-Salley rolled the dice and came up empty in a non-region game against North Central.

After the War Eagles scored on Channing Schofield's 57-yard touchdown run with six minutes left in the game to cut the lead to 20-19, Wagener-Salley went for the victory instead of a PAT and a possible tie. Wagener-Salley tried a pass for a two-point conversion. It failed.

Schofield, a junior tailback, was spectacular in defeat, rushing for 264 yards and scoring two touchdowns. He had 391 total yards, counting kickoff returns and a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Wagener-Salley, 2-2, opens Region 5-A play Friday at Denmark-Olar.
