Mr. John Howard, Sr. (APPLING, Ga.)



APPLING, Ga. - Entered into rest on August 6, 2003, Mr. John R. (Johnny) Howard, Sr. at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Margie Grant Howard of Appling; two daughters, Patricia Lynn Hunter and Sheila Jan Lamb both of Martinez; one son, John R. Howard, Jr. of Martinez; eight grandchildren, Brad Burnett, Chris Hunter, Patrick Hunter, Tony Lamb, Travis Lamb, Jason Howard, Ashley Howard and Amanda Howard; three great grandchildren, Anna Burnett, Victoria Howard and Jassamyn Howard; two brothers, Tommy Howard and Edward Howard both of Swainsboro; six sisters, Mrs. Mary Louise Newkirk of Augusta, Mrs. Hattie Lee Hudson of Swainsboro, Mrs. Mytrice Tidwell of Milledgeville, Mrs. Sarah Ruby Prince of Thomson, Mrs. Martha Ann Martin of Twin City, and Ann Crosby of Adrian; several nieces and nephews. Mr. John R. (Johnny) Howard, Sr. was a native of Emanuel County, Georgia; son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Howard of Swainsboro, and has lived in the Augusta area for the past 44 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and he received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Medal of Honor as a squad leader. He was a member of the American Legion Post 63. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 9, 2003, at Thomas Poteet & Son Chapel at 3 p.m., with Rev. C.W. Edwards and Rev. Shawn Edenfield, officiating. Pallbearers will be Keith Howard, Scott Howard, Ricky Howard, Tony Howard, Steven Heard and Brandon Ashe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tony Heard, Ken Ashe, Jim Hiller, Rodney Hood, Scott Powell, Bill Polonus, Carey Landers, Tommy Harrison, Don Evans and Lyn Tuggle. Interment will be at West View Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., at Thomas Poteet & Son. Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA 30907.
