Hilton Wall, Jr., M.D. (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Hilton Frazier Wall, Jr., M.D., age 57, passed away on Tuesday at University Hospital after a three-year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. A native of Atlanta, Dr. Wall graduated from Dykes High School in 1963, and he graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1967. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine in 1971 and was elected to membership in Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. Dr. Walls medical school classmates selected him to receive the Upjohn Award, recognizing him as the physician whom they would most want to care for themselves and their families. He completed his training in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in 1974, and was voted by the faculty as outstanding resident in 1974. Dr. Wall served as a physician in the United States Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, Louisiana from July 1974 until June 1976. Dr. Wall was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was a founding member of Augusta Medical Associates, and he retired in November 2000, after 23 years of medical practice. Dr. Wall has lived with his family in Augusta since 1976. He was a member of Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church, where he served on the Church Council as well as several committees, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class. In 1997 Dr. Wall conceived the idea for, and along with several others, was instrumental in establishing the Forum for the Advancement of Interreligious Tolerance and Harmony (F.A.I.T.H. Inc.), a charitable organization founded to encourage understanding a of different faiths in our community. Dr. Wall is survived by his wife, Jane Taylor Wall, a nurse at University Hospital in Augusta, and son, Clifton Taylor Wall, a doctoral candidate at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy H. Matthews, of Augusta and Cliffs fiancŽe, Dr. Carolyn Puccio, of Palo Alto, California. He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Hilton Frazier Wall, Sr., a surgeon who practiced in Atlanta. Funeral services will be held at Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Santo Avenue, on Friday, August 8, 2003, at 11 a.m., Dr. David Jones, Dr. Brian Germano, and The Rev. Stephen Dodson will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive family and friends at Platts Funeral Home, 721 Crawford Avenue, Augusta on Thursday, August 7, 2003, from 6 until 9 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Dr. Nesbit Dasher, Dr. Vinayak Kamath, Dr. Kalish Sharma, Dr. Kerry Diver, Dr. Michael Cohen, Mr. Ruben Samuels, Dr. Charles G. Howell, The Rev. Jim Wall, Mr. Ben Kay and Dr. Robert Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Open Door Sunday School Class of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made either to F.A.I.T.H., Inc. at P.O. Box 31122, Augusta, GA 30903 or to the Hilton F.
