Clemson hires Bradley as basketball associate coach

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Ron Bradley, who worked with Clemson basketball coach Oliver Purnell at Maryland and Radford, was named the Tigers associate head coach Wednesday.

Bradley was a head coach for 16 years, five at Eastern Nazarene (1976-1981) and 11 at Radford (1991-2002) with a combined record of 289-175. He was most recently the associate head coach at James Madison since 2002.

"I can't tell you how pleased I am to have Ron Bradley join our staff," said Purnell, who took the Clemson job in April. "I've developed a strong level of respect for Ron as a coach and a person during our times coaching together."

Bradley took over for Purnell as Radford's head coach and led the Highlanders to their first NCAA tournament appearance in 1998.

Purnell had an opening to fill on his staff when assistant Ron Jirsa, a former head coach at Georgia, took the head coaching job at Marshall this week.
