CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson athletes had an overall GPA of 2.84 for the spring semester, falling slightly short of last year's recording breaking GPA of 2.85, school officials said Wednesday.
A record 231 student athletes were named to the academic honor roll with at least a 3.0, school officials said.
A record eight athletic teams earned above an overall GPA of 3.0. Those were women's soccer (3.42), rowing (3.35), women's swimming (3.27), women's tennis (3.20), men's soccer (3.09), volleyball (3.07), golf (3.02) and men's swimming (3.02).
The men's football team had the lowest average GPA at 2.21, compared with 2.56 last spring. The women's basketball team was slightly higher at 2.42, up from 2.38 last spring. The men's basketball team followed at 2.52, up from 2.09 last spring.
Other team overall GPAs were 2.59 for baseball, 2.71 for men's tennis, 2.78 for men's track and 2.94 for women's track.
