Mr. Sam Gilchrist (CHARLESTON, S.C.)



CHARLESTON, S.C. - Mr. Sam Gilchrist, 87, of Mill Creek Drive, died on May 11, 2003. He was born in Edgefield County, a son of the late Sam and Mary B. Jones Gilchrist. He was a member of the Morris Street Baptist Church. He was an entrepreneur, owning and operating several service stations and cabs in the Charleston area. He is survived by his wife, Vanzie Lee Gilchrist of the home; four sons, Samuel, Edward and Leon Gilchrist of Charleston, and Floyd Gilchrist, Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Barbara G. Stanard, Maryland, and Shirley G. Martin, Staten Island, N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Patricia S. Fludd and Adrian Scott both of Charleston; two brothers, John H. Gilchrist and Thomas Gilchrist both of McCormick; six sisters, Juanita Coates, Eddie Mae Roundtree, and Geneva Herring all of McCormick, Maggie Gordon, Edgefield, Pauline Johnson, Temple Hill, Md. and Callie Brown, Indian Head, Md.; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Morris Street Baptist Church, Charleston, S.C. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty Spring Baptist Church Cemetery, Edgefield County, S.C.
