19-year-old man is charged in slaying

ORANGEBURG - A Eutawville man has been charged with murder in the killing of a man whose body was dumped on an Orangeburg County road last week.

Investigators said they arrested Erick Jarrod Gadson, 19, after finding out he was seen driving the victim's car after his death.

Thomas Law, 24, was shot several times, authorities said.

Corps' plan to reduce water flow is dropped

BEAUFORT - A plan to reduce the amount of water flowing into the Savannah River during droughts has been dropped by the Army Corps of Engineers.

South Carolina and local officials fought the plan, saying it would allow salt water to move upstream and perhaps threaten the drinking water for more than 120,000 Beaufort and Jasper county residents.

The Corps' proposal would have only reduced flows in November through March when lakes Hartwell and Thurmond, which feed into the river, are experiencing an extreme drought.

Employees suspended after resident's death

ROCK HILL - Officials at an assisted-living center say four employees are still suspended with pay as police investigate the death of a 92-year-old resident.

The probe began after three EdenGardens residents became sick with low blood sugar and were hospitalized March 29, authorities said.

One of the residents, Kathryn Regan of Springfield, Ill., died March 31 at Piedmont Medical Center. The other two residents, ages 78 and 86, were treated and later released from the hospital.

The four employees who were on duty the night Ms. Regan became ill remain on paid suspension while police continue to investigate, officials said.

Missing woman's body is found by fishermen

HARTSVILLE - The body of a Hartsville woman missing since January has been found in a Darlington County creek, officials say.

Fishermen found the body of Terry Samuel in Black Creek on Sunday, officials said.

Officials would not release the cause of death because her death had been ruled a homicide.

The 38-year-old mother of two was last seen leaving a friend's house about two blocks from her home early Jan. 28, according to family members.
