INSURANCE Q&A

During spring and summer, many travelers rent vehicles for vacation transportation. Part of your vacation planning should include a call to your insurance agent to find out exactly what is covered under your own auto policy.

Q: I plan to rent a car when I take my vacation this year, and I may be driving it for several weeks. Is there a limit on how long my own auto insurance policy will cover the rental?

A: Because a personal auto policy usually covers your use of a rental vehicle only when it is a temporary substitute for your own automobile while it is being repaired, you should ask your agent about insuring the rental vehicle for the duration of its use.

For more insurance information, call the office of state insurance Commissioner John Oxendine at (404) 656-2070 or toll free at (800) 656-2298) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.

HONEY HELP

Studies at the University of Memphis Exercise and Nutrition Laboratory found that honey may be one of the most effective forms of carbohydrates to ingest just before exercise. Honey is digested easily and is released into the body at a steady rate.

CHEST PAIN HELP

Researchers at the University of California found in a study of heart-attack victims that 47 percent first came to the hospital with other symptoms such as dizziness, shortness of breath or stomach pain rather than chest pain.

PLANT CARE TIP

When the soil in a large container dries completely, it tends to shrink from the sides of the pot. Water then flows around the soil without wetting the roots.

Place a few ice cubes on the soil surface. As the cubes melt, they'll soak into the soil.

SLIP GUARD

Keep brooms and long-handled tools from slipping when propped against a wall by cutting the finger off an old rubber glove and sliding it over the handle.
