Gunman fires shots, hits officers with car

CHARLESTON - A man awaiting sentencing on a federal gun charge tried to run down two deputies at the Hollywood bar, authorities say.

Richard Damian Heyward's monitoring bracelet on his leg had stopped working, and federal authorities had been unable to track him down, officials said.

Mr. Heyward, 21, fired shots in the air after he was kicked out of the club early Sunday morning, and police say he knocked the officers to the ground with his car when they came looking for him.

Both deputies suffered minor injuries.
