AUGUSTA, Ga. - H. Carleton Lang, age 84, of Augusta, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, after an extended illness. After serving in the U.S. Army in WW II, he returned to his hometown of Sandersville in 1946 and became a partner in the family business, Langs Variety Works, a millwork manufacturer. While living in Sandersville, he was an active member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church. He and his family moved to Augusta in 1965 where he became vice president and general manager of Augusta Lumber Co. until his retirement in the late 1970s. Until the mid-1990s he sold commercial real estate. In Augusta, he was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Augusta Rotary Club. With little formal education, he was a self-taught businessman, who at one time was Secretary of the Sandersville Board of Education. He wife of 61 years, Margaret Ethel Northcutt Lang of Marietta and Oconee; and daughter, Margaret Northcutt Lang preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Henry C. Lang Jr. "Hank" and wife, Becky of Chester, Va.; grandchildren, Michael Lang and wife, Blythe of Richmond, Va. and granddaughter, Elizabeth Lang Pleasants and husband, Corey of Chester, Va. The family will receive visitors at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 1134 Telfair Street, Augusta, Monday, March 31, 2003, at 9 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Westover Memorial Cemetery at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to the Sandersville United Methodist Church Foundation, 202 West Church Street, Sandersville, GA 31082.
