Mr. Dink Hensley (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Thursday, March 27, 2003 at University Hospital, Mr. James "Dink" E. Hensley Sr. of North Augusta. Family members include his sons James E. Hensley Jr. of Charleston, Charles E. Hensley of North Augusta; daughters, Cheryl A. Maddox of Panama City Beach, Fla., Kellie B. Stallworth of Harlem, Robin H. Bates of Augusta. Grandchildren are Tracy Robinette, Paul McDaniel, Jamie Hensley, Charles Hensley Jr., Ashley McCauley, Elaine Bates, Jack Bates, Kristin Hensley, Chad Hensley; six great-grandchildren; brothers, George A. Hensley and Johnny Hensley. Mr. Hensley is a native of Augusta, but lived most of his life in North Augusta. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond where he excelled in football. He attended Presbyterian College where he played baseball. He was in the Georgia Army National Guard where he was activated during the Korean conflict. He was a Sargent First Class in the 250th AAA Anti-aircraft 90 millimeter Battery D. He was again activated during the Vietnam War where he was in 111 Signal Company A. He was a former member of St. James United Methodist Church and was a former fire fighter for the Augusta Fire Department for 7 years. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 30, 2003 at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and son with Rev. Eddie Penland officiating.
