Stabbing suspect arrested

An Augusta man was charged with aggravated assault after he repeatedly stabbed a former resident of his apartment building, authorities said.

Larry Gibson, 44, was arrested after he assaulted Linda Willis, 49, outside his Richmond Summit Apartments residence Saturday, said Investigator Jimmy Graham with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Investigator Graham said Ms. Willis, who had been evicted earlier from the building on the 700 block of Broad Street, knocked constantly on Mr. Gibson's door before 6 p.m.

Mr. Gibson then punched Ms. Willis in the face, Investigator Graham said, after which she ran down the third-floor hallway to the elevator.

Investigator Graham said before she could reach the elevator, Mr. Gibson stabbed Ms. Willis twice in the back, five times in the chest and twice in one arm when she turned around.

Investigator Graham said Ms. Willis and Mr. Gibson knew each other, and said Ms. Willis was not supposed to be in the building again after she was evicted.

Ms. Willis was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where she remained in fair condition, said Danielle Wong, an MCG spokeswoman.

Richmond County Jail officials did not have bond information on Mr. Gibson as of late Saturday night.
