Some of the peaceniks who served themselves up as "human shields" for Saddam Hussein are learning what a stupid idea that was. A few American anti-war activists have returned from their sojourn to Iraq totally shorn of their naivete.
One of them, Kenneth Joseph, a young American pastor with the Assyrian Church, told UPI's Arnaud de Borchgrave that he's been "shocked back to reality."
The former appeasement activists brought back 14 hours of uncensored video, all shot without Iraqi minders present. Some of the Iraqis interviewed on camera describe in ghastly detail the torture and depredation they have suffered under Saddam's regime.
To say this was an eyeopener to the would-be "human shields" is a gross understatement. They were appalled at what they heard.
The Iraqis they interviewed hate Saddam so much that they're willing to have their homes and businesses bombed by coalition forces to get rid of him. Some Iraqis went even further - saying they would have committed suicide if the bombing didn't take place.
"They convinced me that Saddam was a monster the likes of which the world had not seen since Stalin and Hitler," Joseph told UPI. "He and his sons are sick sadists."
It's heartening to know that the scales are falling from the eyes of some anti-liberation activists. It's too bad they had to go to Iraq to learn the lesson. We just hope that others in the appeasement movement are listening.
