Mr. Walter Knight (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Thursday, March 6, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital, Mr. Walter Samuel Knight, husband of Betty J. Knight of Augusta. Other family members include daughters, Loretta Rodger of Laurel, Md., Barbara Ashcraft of Augusta; grandchildren, Craig Allan James, Chad A. James, Melissa Ashcraft; brother, Edward Knight of Charleston; sisters, Ladell Jasch of Charleston, S.C. and Ruby MacRae of Glen Rock, Wyoming. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Dr. Gordon Robinson officiating. Pallbearers will be the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Fort Gordon. Roy Lee Wireman is an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Mr. Knight was a native of Charleston, S.C. and has lived in Augusta for the last 41 years. He retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service, including tours in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was also in the United States Navy Reserves for three years. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was in the Bill Evans Sunday School Class. He was also a member of Fleming Masonic Lodge.
