STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State forward LaToya Thomas, who is averaging 25.6 points per game, has been named women's player of the year in the Southeastern Conference.
Thomas, a 6-foot-2 senior, could become the first player to win the SEC scoring title four times. She ranks third nationally in scoring average and is tied for second in the conference in rebounding at 8.6 rebounds per game.
The SEC women's basketball postseason awards were announced Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala.
Thomas was named to the All-SEC first team, while teammate Tan White was named to the second team.
White is averaging 17.9 points, fourth in the SEC.
Mississippi State (22-6) opens play in the SEC tournament Friday against the winner of Thursday's Mississippi-South Carolina game.
