CONCORD, Mass. -- NHL players will move from the ice to the fairways when they play on the PGA Tour's 50-and-over circuit at the FleetBoston Classic.
During the Champions Tour event Aug. 1-3 at Nashawtuc Country Club, NHL players will compete against each other for a $50,000 purse that will be donated to the Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care.
The format is similar to the NFL Classic on the Champions Tour, which was dropped from this year's schedule when it failed to renew its title sponsorship with Cadillac.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the event has the "dual benefit of exposing our players to a new audience in a different arena while benefiting a worthy cause."
Neely and Grant Fuhr are among the players expected to compete.
