Grammys boost viewership by nearly six million viewers

NEW YORK -- This year's Grammy ceremony proved to be a winner with television viewers.

Approximately 24.9 million viewers watched newcomer Norah Jones' Grammy sweep, according to a preliminary estimate by Nielsen Media Research. Last year, the show had just under 19 million viewers.

CBS officials believe a switch to Sunday night, traditionally the most-watched television night of the week, boosted the broadcast.

The show featured performances by Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Simon & Garfunkel, Nelly and Avril Lavigne, among others. Jones emerged as the night's big winner; her debut album, "Come Away with Me," earned her five Grammy awards.
