Applauds tobacco, alcohol tax increase

With a membership of 360,000, the Georgia PTA's mission is to speak on behalf of Georgia's children and youth, ensuring that every child has an opportunity to reach his full potential. Our concern is for their health, safety and well being. To that end, we would like to applaud Governor Sonny Perdue's efforts to increase the user fees on tobacco and alcohol.

Evidence from research shows that an increase in cost would discourage the use of these products by minors, therefore helping to protect them from the deadly consequences of addiction to harmful substances such as chewing tobacco, cigarettes, beer, wine and alcoholic beverages.
