Mrs. Dera Brooks (AVERA, Ga.)



AVERA, Ga. - Mrs. Dera Padgett Brooks, 77, of Brooks Road, died Monday, February 17, 2003, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Clark and Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Brooks was a native of Jefferson County, she was retired from the Stapleton Garment Company, and a homemaker where she enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing, and she loved to fish. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Mr. George L. Brooks; one son, Wade Brooks and Janice of Avera; one daughter, Elaine James and Billy of Martinez; two brothers, Mr. Johnny Padgett of Avera and Mr. Lanier Padgett of Avera; one sister, Mrs. Ogle Aiken of Gibson; two grandchildren, Sherri B. Weeks and Chris Brooks; and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Tommy Dixon, Johnny Padgett, Jr., Charles Padgett, Gregg Brooks, Jeff Brooks and Etheridge Williams. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund in care of Mrs. Bobbie Kitchens, 1092 Oak Street, Avera, GA, 30803.
