I'm backing Mike Hunt for sheriff in the March 25 Republican primary. I agree wholeheartedly with Carrol Busbee, the retired chief of the Aiken Department of Public Safety, when he said, "We need Mike Hunt as sheriff of Aiken County. Mike is a proven leader with new ideas and a refreshing approach."
It's easy to see why Mike Hunt should be our next sheriff. He has years of experience and training in law enforcement and maintaining an annual budget. He has many good ideas for improving the sheriff's office.
He's full of energy and has devoted his life to public safety. On issues ranging from drug enforcement to improving deputy response time, Mike Hunt is truly the right man for the job.
Mr. Hunt's slogan should be "I like Mike," similar to President Dwight D. Eisenhower for whom the original "I like Ike" slogan was coined. Mike Hunt stands above gritty partisan politics, and instead stands for duty, honor and integrity. He's also extremely likable and accessible.
Without denigrating any of the other candidates, I sincerely believe that he's the best man in the race to succeed Howard Sellers.
