Featured obituary: Marvin Davidson

Marvin Davidson had one of the coolest jobs in town.

He worked for his father as a paint contractor for many years and got to work at a variety of places, such as the Bon Air Apartments and Mamie's Cabin at Augusta National Golf Club.

Mr. Davidson, 83, died Thursday at Forest Lake Health Care.

Before becoming a paint contractor, he joined the Army in 1937 and became an engineer. His son, Bill Davidson, said his father built roads, bridges and railroads.

"He joined the Army because we wanted to protect the country," his son said.

While serving in World War II, Mr. Davidson contracted malaria. He was discharged in 1946.

Mr. Davidson was a member of Bible Deliverance Temple. The younger Mr. Davidson said his father enjoyed fishing and hunting.

"He would go fishing every three to four weeks," Mr. Davidson said. "He would go just to relax and get in touch with nature. He would go hunting down in Sylvania with my granddad, and they would just share the meat with people."

Graveside services for Mr. Davidson were at 3 p.m. Friday at Westover Memorial Park. The Rev. H.K. McKnight officiated.

Survivors also include a daughter, Mary Kay; a brother, Frank Davidson; a grandson, Marty Hall; and his best friend, Bobby Kay.
