Mrs. Norma Boettcher (VERONA, Wis.)



VERONA, Wis. - Norma H. Boettcher, age 91, died peacefully on January 23, 2003, at Four Winds Lodge in Verona, Wis. She was born May 3, 1911 in Merill, Wis., the daughter of Adolph and Ella (Schwann) Grob. Norma married Norman Boettcher on July 26, 1934. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1980. Norma graduated from Marathon County Normal with a degree in Elementary Education and taught for two years at Pine River near Merrill, Wis. and later obtained a Bachelor of Education at UW Stevens Point. The family moved to Rhinelander and Norma taught first grade for 31 years at Sugar Camp Elementary School, retiring in 1976. After retirement Norma enjoyed volunteering at Friendly Village Health Center and the Rhinelander Logging Museum. She also especially enjoyed traveling to visit her son in Augusta, Ga., and trips to England and Europe. In 1999, Norma moved to Madison/Verona to be closer to family. Norma was an active member of the Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association and Rhinelander Area Retired Teachers Association for many years. She also was a member of the Mabel Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Matron and was a member of the Northwoods Shrine Club. She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Rhinelander and served on many committees in her church. Survivors include her sons, Alan (Nelda) Boettcher of Augusta and Roger (Linda) Boettcher of Madison; three grandchildren, Leslie Boettcher of Madison, Allen (Vivian) Boettcher of Phoenix, Ariz. and Gary (Sheila) Boettcher of Macon; one great-grandchild; and one great- great grandchild and a beloved twin sister, Margaret Koch of Minocqua, Wis. Norma was preceded in death by a very special son, Blair in 1993. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Four Winds Lodge for their exceptional loving care and kindness over the past two years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, January 27, 2003, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Rhinelander, Wis., with interment to follow at Northland Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m., on Sunday, January 26 at Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home, 715-365-4343, as well as one hour prior to services at the church on Monday morning.
