NHL suspends Atlanta's Kozlov for three games

NEW YORK -- Atlanta Thrashers right wing Slava Kozlov was suspended for three games Friday by the NHL for hitting an official during a game against the Ottawa Senators.

Kozlov made contact with referee Brad Meier after Ottawa's Radek Bonk scored in the third period of Atlanta's 8-1 loss Thursday.

Kozlov was given a game misconduct penalty under the NHL's physical abuse of officials rule, which carries an automatic three-game suspension.

Kozlov will forfeit $39,166.68 in salary and was to miss Atlanta's games Friday against Pittsburgh, Sunday against Philadelphia, and Tuesday against Carolina.
