Teacher is accused of bludgeoning father

ALBANY - A high school math teacher has been arrested on charges of bludgeoning his wealthy father to death with a golf club 12 years ago, officials said.

William T. Scheer, a 53-year-old teacher at Monroe High School, was arrested Monday after a Dougherty County grand jury indicted him on murder charges in the death of 83-year-old William Henry Scheer.

According to news reports at the time, the father's body was found Sept. 13, 1990, in a bedroom chair by two maids, dead from an apparent blow to the head from a golf club.

The indictment said the younger Mr. Scheer killed his father "by striking him about the head with a certain blunt instrument."

Police say utility worker was playing Robin Hood

LaGRANGE - A LaGrange utility employee charged withstealing from the rich to help the poor pay their bills surrendered to police Tuesday.

Cassandra Dickerson, 34, is charged with felony theft, accused of stealing $3,000 from the LaGrange Utility Department.

Instead of keeping the money, Ms. Dickerson is accused of using utility payments made by businesses to help individuals who were either behind on payments or in need of a utility deposit.

Wounded hiker wants hunter to go free

ATLANTA - A 16-year-old Cartersville girl shot by a hunter Sunday morning in the north Georgia woods does not want the hunter prosecuted, the girl's father said.

Rachel Ferguson, who was in the intensive care unit of St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta, was upset to learn that felony charges had been brought against the hunter, 21-year-old Matthew Bryant, her father said Monday.

"That's not what she wants," Terry Ferguson said.

Mr. Bryant was charged with misusing a firearm and faces up to 10 years in prison.

Mr. Ferguson said the hunter gave his daughter first aid and CPR.

Police say man posed as officer in sex crime

COLLEGE PARK - A man accused of impersonating a police officer to lure minors for sex was released on bond Monday night.

College Park police said Eric Trout, 43, of Fayetteville, surrendered to authorities Monday afternoon.

In August, Mr. Trout posed as an officer at a hotel and asked a 15-year-old boy for sex, officials said.
