SYLVANIA, Ga. - Mrs. Rhoda Sturdivant Dickey, 83, of Augusta, died Tuesday afternoon at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. She was born in Burke County, lived in Sylvania for a number of years, before moving to Augusta in 1995. She was a homemaker and a member of Buck Creek United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Harris Dickey. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James Edward "Eddie" and Betsy Dickey of Augusta; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lil Chandler and Bill Bargeron both of Sardis, and Sue and Stan Irwin of Smithville, N.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, James W. and Gwen Sturdivant of Sylvania; five grandchildren, Angela D. Thibodeaux of Martinez, Carla Joyce Dickey and Bradley Scott Dickey both of Augusta, Sherry Sanders of Martinez and Lisa Hargett of Atlanta; seven great grandchildren, Michael, Raven, Mary Catherine, Shane Austin, Dustin, Ally and Saddie; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Dickey will be held Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at the Buck United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Sturdivant, Gary Sturdivant, Steve Thidodeaux, Joel Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the French Pfeiffer Sunday School Class at Buck Creek United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home of Sylvania is in charge of all arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. Rhoda Sturdivant Dickey.
