Mother Nature had her way on Veterans Day in Augusta. It was a disappointment that the outdoor events were canceled, but a good decision.
I'd like to take this opportunity, in the absence of a chance on Veterans Day, to thank Augusta and surrounding communities for their strong support of Fort Gordon and of all the soldiers and civilian employees who work at the Signal Center. We hope you think of Fort Gordon as a good neighbor, and we thank you for being good neighbors to us.
I'd also like to recognize the great military veterans in the Augusta area. America's veterans are a tremendous source of pride and inspiration for those of us serving in uniform today.
America's veterans of past wars, those who made it home and those who did not, paid the price for the freedoms that all Americans enjoy today. As we prosecute the war on terrorism, please know that your military, as our veterans demonstrated time and again, will not let America down.
Brig. Gen. Jan Hicks, Fort Gordon, Ga.
