AIKEN - A crime scene investigation this week has cleared a motorist who collided with a biker from any wrongdoing in the man's death.
James Wilson Boone Jr., 25, of the 900 block of Kedron Church Road, died Wednesday at about 5:30 p.m. when a car driven by Gary Stewart Siegmund, 46, of the 1200 block of Hahn Avenue, made a turn into his lane.
The accident happened at Brandy and Two Notch roads, and was investigated by the Aiken Department of Public Safety and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
"At first we thought (Mr. Siegmund) might be to blame, because he turned in front of the guy," Public Safety Sgt. David Turno said Friday. "But Mr. Boone is going to be shown at fault.
"He was traveling at an excessive speed - two times the legal limit."
Sgt. Turno said Aiken's Accident Reconstruction Team and the highway patrol's Mobile Accident Investigation Team took numerous, precise measurements in order to verify how the accident happened.
When the motorcycle rider hit the car, his body stopped traveling, but his Kawasaki traveled a block farther down the road, the sergeant said.
Sgt. Turno said lengthy skid marks and impressions on the car helped determine that high speed was the contributing factor. Reach Eric Williamson at (803) 279-6895 or email@example.com.
