WILLISTON, S.C. - Mrs. Effie Mae Toney Simmons, 90, of Old Barnwell Road, Williston, entered into rest November 13, 2002, at Aiken Regional Medical Center, Aiken. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 16, 2002, at the Summer Grove Missionary Baptist Church, White Pone Community, Williston at 1 p.m. with Rev. T.E. Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church an hour before the funeral. Pallbearers will be Deacons of Thankful Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Active Casket Bearers are grandsons and nephews. Mrs. Simmons was the daughter of the late Charlie "Hawk" and Doshia Toole Toney Sr. She received her education in the public schools of Aiken County. At an early age she joined the Thankful Grove Missionary. She served faithfully as mother of the church, a member of the Willing Workers Ministry, Deaconess Ministry, Chief of the Usher Board, secretary to the Sunday School, and a member of Choir No. 2. She also served as secretary of the Summer Grove Baptist Union and the FA of B Society, and President of the Home Demonstration Club of Windsor. Survivors include 11 sons, Ermon (Edith) Simmons of Americus, Willie (Geraldine) Simmons of Aiken, Stanfield (Mary) of Cope, Lindbergh (Judy) of Lake, Miss., Walter (Lillie) Simmons of Cope, Ulysses of Williston, Wendell Simmons of Brooklyn, N.Y., Wilbur (Edna) Simmons, John (Blond) Simmons all of Williston, Paul Simmons of Orangeburg, Thomas (Angela) Simmons of Maudin; five daughters, Lois Simmons and Justine (William) Sanders, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Henrietta Johnson of Jersey City, N.J., Elizabeth (Gerald) Garvin of Orangeburg, Blanche (Kevin) Wimberley of Monroe, N.C.; one brother, Theodore (Pete) Toney of Aiken; 45 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A wake will be held Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at Thankful Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor, S.C. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15, 2002, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg and after 2 p.m. at the Simmons Funeral Home of Williston.
