AUGUSTA, Ga. - Oscar A. Richardson Jr., age 74, of Augusta, passed away Tuesday evening, November 12, 2002, at University Hospital. A native of Millen, he had been a life long resident of the Augusta area. Mr. Richardson had been the owner and operator of Richardsons Grocery in McBean from the 1940s until the mid 1970s. He had been an Agricultural Inspector at the State Farmers Market in Augusta for 16 years, before retiring in 1993. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Augusta for over 23 years. He was a U.S. Naval veteran as well as a 30 year veteran of the Navy Reserves. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara "Bobbie" Richardson, Augusta; their son, Andy Richardson, Zebulon, Ga.; their daughters, Vicky Claborn, Orange Park, Fla. and Leslie Clements, Augusta; one sister, Gloria R. Bates, Augusta; four grandchildren, James and Vanessa Richardson, Rebecca Claborn, Jacob Clements and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2002, from the chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road with Reverend Jacob Malone, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
