Authorities charge man with killing roommate

An Augusta man who was stabbed two weeks ago, allegedly for having sex with his roommate's wife, died Sunday, and officials upgraded the charges against the roommate to murder.

Daniel Samilpa, 47, died at 5:03 a.m. Sunday at Medical College of Georgia Hospital as a result of complications from the stabbing, Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Dan Carrier said.

Charges against 45-year-old Jesse Black were upgraded Sunday from aggravated assault to malice murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.

Police found Mr. Samilpa at about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 19 on Telfair Street. He had stab wounds inhis abdomen, chest and neck. Mr. Samilpa told police he was stabbed by his roommate because he was sleeping with the man's wife, who lived with the men in a Greene Street apartment.Investigator Carrier said Mr. Samilpa's condition had worsened during the past few days.

"He was put back in shock trauma because he was having complications from the stabbing. He was on a ventilator," the investigator said.

Mr. Black, who worked as a cook at Huddle House, was being held without bond at the Richmond County jail.
