AUGUSTA, Ga. - Dell Summers Staley, 42, formerly of Augusta, passed away, Monday evening, October 21, 2002 at Fair Oak Memorial Hospital in Fairfax, VA, after a lengthy illness. A native of Augusta, Dell was a 1978 graduate of Glenn Hills High School where she was the Class Valedictorian and a member of the National Honor Society, afterwards earning her Bachelors Degree from Augusta College in Accounting. She had worked at the VA Hospital in Augusta during school and after graduation accepted a position with the Auditor Generals Office for the Veterans Administration in Chicago, Illinois where she remained until 1995. She moved to Fairfax, VA in 1995 with her husband, and began working as a Supervisor with United Airlines at Dulles International Airport. She was a member of Lumpkin Road Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Summers, who passed away in December of 1984. She is survived by: her husband, Michael Staley, Fairfax, VA; one step son, Brian Staley, Chicago, IL; her father and step mother, JV and Dot Summers , Augusta; two sisters, Cheryl Bragg, Augusta; Tammie Pilgrim, Aiken, SC; niece and nephews; Brice and Summer Bragg, and Chad and Kirk Pilgrim. Funeral services will be at 3 pm, Sunday, October 27, 2002 at Lumpkin Road Baptist Church with Reverend Len Chavis officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown. Pallbearers will be Donnie Hopkins, Rodgers Gentry, Ronnie Gentry, Eddie Newsome, Alvin Mixon and Ronnie Crouch. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm, Saturday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home,2524 Lumpkin Road.
