For all those who are interested in the Phinizy Swamp parking ban, it would be a good idea to get all of the facts straight before writing an article about someone or something you know nothing about.
First and foremost, I do not know state Sen. Joey Brush, R-Appling. I have never met him or talked to him about Phinizy Swamp, or anything else for that matter.
I saw no point in having Rob Pavey write a correction to his article of Sept. 1, because the people who know me are aware of how I feel about game laws and the privileges we have as outdoorsmen. I see now that I probably should have taken him up on the offer for a correction.
The facts are in a written agreement, and it clearly states, "access to management lands in Phinizy Swamp shall be from roads other than Bobby Jones Expressway. No public parking or access will be allowed from Bobby Jones."
Had the hunters not abused the one-year privilege of access, they would probably still be able to use it. Baiting with corn, cutting fences, hunting with firearms and trespassing on private land are just a few of the violations that caused the privilege of parking to be terminated - and the simple fact that it has been illegal to hunt Phinizy Swamp from Bobby Jones Expressway from the very beginning.
