NEWS AND NOTES

IN GOAL?: Lynx coach Jim Burton said after practice Monday he was undecided on a starting goalie tonight. Rookie Geoff Faulkner has been impressive, making 13 saves in relief of Josh Blackburn in Friday's season-opening loss to Florida before stopping 24 shots and four of five shootout attempts in Saturday's 3-2 win. Faulkner is fourth in the ECHL with a 1.21 goals-against average. Regardless of who starts tonight, Faulkner will leave the Lynx after the game and join Macon of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League, which opens its inaugural season on Thursday. With goalie Colin Zulianello still nursing a groin pull, Faulkner could be back with the Lynx this weekend, Burton said.

NO GOAL: Although veteran right winger Kevin Brown scored the decisive goal in Saturday's 3-2 shootout win, he was not credited with a goal in the stats because of a new ECHL rule. This season, shootout-winning goals instead will be listed as a "bench" goal.

RETURN ENGAGEMENTS: Tonight is former Lynx defenseman Trevor Gillies' first game here since he was traded to Richmond Feb. 4 for defenseman Joe Vandermeer. Gillies finished second in the ECHL with 320 penalty minutes last season. Vandermeer was not re-signed by the Lynx and is playing for first-year Lexington. ... From 1998-2001, Richmond GM Paul Gamsby was the Lynx's GM and assistant GM Jerry Canaan was the team's play-by-play man, but neither are expected to make the trip for tonight's contest.

ONE-TIMERS: First-year Renegades coach Gord Dineen, a former NHL defenseman, coached the ECHL's Macon Whoopee last year. Dineen takes over in Richmond after Mark Kaufman was fired after four seasons. ... Renegades second-leading scorer Brad Church is not expected to make the trip because of the birth of his second child. ... Former Lynx forward Corey Smith, who played in the Western Professional Hockey League and Central Hockey League the past two seasons, has signed with ACHL Macon. ... The Lynx's new NHL parent club, the Phoenix Coyotes, hired former NHL goalie Eddie Mio as director of minor league player development.
