World War II veterans of Battery A, 214th Coast Artillery (AA) Georgia Army National Guard voted at their recent meeting to erect a flagpole near their monument on the 500th block of Greene Street.
We soon found out this could not be done without the approval of the Georgia Department of Transportation, as Greene Street is a part of the state highway system.
We contacted state Rep. George DeLoach, R-Hephzibah, and he agreed to help us. In a short time, we received approval from the DOT. Mr. DeLoach then presented us with our American flag and a Georgia state flag.
We want to thank Mr. DeLoach, and express our sincere appreciation for his effort on our behalf. He is certainly a caring and responsive public official.
