Aiken man shot twice

AIKEN - A man driving a floral delivery truck was shot at least twice today on Old Kimball Trail, and Aiken County investigators said they are looking for the shooter. The incident took place shortly before noon along New Bridge Road.

Capt. Michael Frank with the Sheriff's Office said the suspect - described as a skinny, white man in his 30s, 6-feet-2-inches tall with scraggly red hair - forced his way into a Hite Floral Inc. truck after shooting into its windshield. The driver said he stopped his van after the shot was fired.

The man with the gun, wearing a plaid shirt and blue jeans, ordered the driver to continue driving and eventually made him stop along Old Kimball Trail, Capt. Frank said.

During that stop the two struggled over the gun after the delivery man tried to take it. Several shots were fired, two hitting the driver in the hand and the foot, witnesses said. The shooter ran from the scene while the driver got into his truck and drove to a nearby convenience store on U.S. Highway 1, the captain said. Witnesses found him in the parking lot.

Capt. Frank said investigators did not know at this time the motive of the shooting or if the man with the gun was wounded during the struggle.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the sheriff's office at 800-922-9709.
