AUSTIN, Texas -- The Senior PGA Tour is returning to Austin, the city where the over-50 professional circuit has its roots.
PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem, joined by locally based senior pros Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw, announced Monday that the Kinko's Classic of Austin will be played May 5-11, 2003 at The Hills Country Club.
The 54-hole event will have a purse of $1.6 million. All three rounds will be televised.
It marks the return of a Senior PGA Tour event to Austin after the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf moved after the 1994 season. The Legends, considered the catalyst for creation of the senior tour, originated in Austin in 1978.
