Area sports announcements

BASEBALL

  • Sept. 14-15: The Augusta Angels will be hosting the second annual Battle at the Lakes 12-and-under baseball tournament at Diamond Lakes Regional Park. Players cannot have turned 13 before August 1, 2002. Each team is guaranteed three games, entry fee is $215. For more information, call Tony Miller at (706) 790-9531 or (706) 951-8749.
  • Sept. 20-22: Fall Baseball Tournament at Riverside Park for age groups 10-under, 12-under, 14-under with an age control date of August 1, 2002. Cost is $225 and guaranteed three games. For more information, call Kelvin Lampkin at (706) 863-7523 or (706) 312-7410.
  • The Columbia County Stars, a 12-year-old boys USSSA traveling baseball team, will be holding tryouts for the 2003 season. The season started Sept. 2 and runs through Aug. 3, 2003. For more information, call Billy Gamblin at 556-1035 after 6 p.m.
  • The Dan Sullivan Youth Baseball League will hold a reunion at Julian Smith Casino baseball field on Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. Former players interested in attending should contact Leland Malchow at 724-8890.
  • BASKETBALL

  • Sept. 19: There will be an organizational meeting for a men's adult 3-on-3 basketball league. The league will start at the end of September and run through November. Fee is $150 a team and player fees at $25 in county, and $35 out-of-county. For more information, call 868-3458.
  • Sept. 13: Ninth annual Border Bash at The River Golf Club. There will be 8 a.m and 1 p.m shotgun starts with four man teams, Lauderdale format. $325 per team, limited to first 50 teams. Entry forms can be picked up at Ivan Allen Company (863-4828) or River Golf Club (202-0110).
  • Sept. 16: Eleventh annual Young Life Golf Marathon at Midland Valley to benefit the high school ministry of Young Life. 18 and 54 hole formats with individual and team prizes. For more information, call 733-2507.
  • Sept. 16: Walton Foundation Independence, Inc. 2002 Golf Classic at Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club. This is an amateur event, and no professionals are eligible.   • Sept. 19: Fourth annual Celebrity Golf Tournament at 2002 Sports Auction at Midland Valley Golf Club. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The field is limited to the first 26 teams. Entry deadline is Sept. 13. Single entry fee is $100.   • MISCELLANEOUS

  • Anyone interested in officiating youth games with the Columbia County Recreation Department for the 2002 fall soccer and flag football season may call 863-7523.   • ROAD RACING

  • Sept. 14: The 26th annual SRP Federal Credit Union Board Street Ramble. All races start and end at the Augusta Museum of History at the corner of Broad Street and Sixth Street. There will be a 10k run, 2 mile walk, 1 mile kids race, 1/2 -mile kids race and tot trot.   • Sept. 13: The Augusta Soccer Park will hold a soccer coaching license course for Georgia State G license, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, call 854-0149.
  • Sept. 18: Georgia State Select Soccer Tryouts for District ODP for boys born from 1986 to 1989 will be held at Augusta Soccer Park from 7 p.m to 10 p.m. For more information, call 854-0149.
  • VOLLEYBALL

  • Registration for The Family Y's Adult volleyball league began Sept. 4 at Wilson Branch at 3570 Wheeler Road and Family Y membership is required. Co-ed recreational leagues are open to players 16 years and older and of all ability levels. B League is composed of beginner to average players and BB League includes average to above average players. Games are Monday and Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. League begins Sept. 30.
