Game of the week

GAME OF THE WEEK

Clemson at No. 8 Georgia WHERE: Sanford Stadium, Athens, Ga.

WHERE: Williams-Brice Stadium, Columbia

WHERE: Bobby Dodd Stadium, Atlanta

WHEN: 6 p.m.

TV: None

THE STORYLINES: The Chan Gailey era begins at Georgia Tech. ... The Yellow Jackets and Commodores are meeting for the first time since 1967. ... Bobby Johnson is in his first year at Vanderbilt after leaving Furman. ... Georgia Tech fullback Brian Johnson , a former Lakeside High standout, isn't expected to play because of a sprained ankle.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: A.J. Suggs should start at quarterback for the Yellow Jackets, but expect redshirt freshman Damarius Bilbo to see playing time. The Commodores lost last year's starting quarterback and tailback, so they'll be hard pressed to move the ball.

AT STAKE: Georgia Tech would love to get Gailey's tenure started off right with a dominating victory. The Yellow Jackets need to get everything running smoothly today and next week, when they play at Connecticut. After that, their next five games are against teams that were bowl eligible last season.

OTHER SEC GAMES Middle Tennessee at Alabama 12:30 p.m.-Crimson Tide better work out the kinks before next week's trip to Oklahoma.

Mississippi State at Oregon 6 p.m.-Ducks have won 25 of their past 26 games in Autzen Stadium.

Tennessee vs. Wyoming (Nashville) 5:30 p.m.-Technically, the Cowboys are the home team. Yeah, right.

UAB at Florida 6 p.m.-The fans won't be happy with anything other than a lopsided victory.

Louisiana-Monroe at Mississippi 7 p.m.-Expanded Vaught-Hemingway stadium plays host to a seal clubbing.

OTHER ACC GAMES Miami (Ohio) at North Carolina 1:30 p.m.-RedHawks have North Carolina's respect after beating Tar Heels in 1998.

Virginia at Florida State 3:30 p.m.-Seminoles won't lose interest in the second half today.

East Carolina at Duke 6 p.m.-Blue Devils have only one senior - linebacker Jamyon Small - on their roster.

East Tennessee State at N.C. State 7 p.m.-Wolfpack needs a running game if it plans to challenge Florida State.

Maryland vs. Notre Dame (East Rutherford, N.J.) 8 p.m.-Tyrone Willingham and the Irish could use a jump start to a brutal schedule.

NATIONAL GAME OF THE WEEK Washington at Michigan noon-Wolverines have much to prove after losing their final two games last season.
