Fish tale

Receding water levels are concentrating some of Thurmond Lake's biggest fish. Last weekend, 13-year-old Starlah Heiple of Martinez landed her first striped bass - weighing 12.63 pounds - while fishing with her dad, Roy Heiple, near the U.S. Highway 378 bridge between Lincolnton, Ga., and McCormick County, S.C. The Heiples, members of the Clarks Hill Striper Club, were using cut herring for bait, and boated three more nice stripers the same afternoon.
